History

Performance QSA was started in 2003 by Vaughn Bethell.

Here is his story…

In college I majored in Health and Exercise Science and my senior year I did an internship at a one on one personal training studio.

It was your old-fashioned traditional personal training with wall to wall machines and a whole lot of rep counting.  Monday: “Back and bi’s”, Wednesday: “Chest and tris”, Friday: legs.  You know the routine.

It amazed me how routine everything was, and to me routine is boring! Not just to me, but boring to your body as well.  I don’t know about you, but when I’m bored I can easily fall asleep.  Well, your body is the same way and when it gets into a routine, it might as well be asleep because it’s really not benefiting from the program anymore. You should have seen it.  The clients at this studio might as well have been paying for a country club membership.

The turning point for me came about 6 months later, by this time I had completed my internship and they had hired me on full time.  I went into work on a Saturday morning and when I arrived, there was a sign on the door that read, ‘We are no longer in business!’

Wow, the owner not only didn’t bother to tell the clients, but he took off without even telling his trainers.

I guess you can’t run a successful personal training business if you fail to provide results.

Well, believe it or not, that day turned out to be the best day of my life.  It’s when I decided that I wanted to work primarily with athletes and I was going to do it on my own.

I started training my own clients out of another studio and at local sports fields.  In a relatively short period of time I had built up enough clientele that I opened up my own training facility.  That was January 2005.

At the time the majority of my clients were competitive athletes ranging from the ages of 8-18, but not long after opening up shop, parents of the athletes I was training started asking me if I would be willing to work with them.  They saw what I was doing with their children and the results they were getting and they said it looked like FUN to them.  The medicine balls, the bungee cords, the bands, the big inflatable ball… Without much thought, my response was “Of Course!”

Why not?  They liked what they saw and they trusted me.  So I began to train these adults the same way as I was training my younger competitive athletes.  Why separate them?  We’re all after the same thing anyway, right?

In just a short period of time after working with these “amateur athletes”, something amazing started happening…they saw results faster than they ever thought possible.  One client lost 13lbs and 7% body fat in the first six weeks.

Well, today results like that are normal around my facility.  In fact, as I sit here writing this we are about to go into 2011 and out of the nearly 200 clients that we are currently working with, more than 75% of them are adult “amateur athletes”.  Part of that has to do with the fact that we only train serious elite high school, college, and professional athletes now.  But whether you’re looking to get stronger and faster, or simply lose weight and drop body fat, results speak and the word has gotten out.

Performance QSA is now the largest personal training ONLY facility in the Upstate.

We would love for you to come try us out!
